Pastoral Team (Coordinator-Visiting Team)

To coordinate all members of the Visiting Team, in liaison with the Pastoral Cooordinator (Jenny Cosslett) to ensure that people are visited by request and/or need. To provide on going support to members of the Visiting Team, as required.

Responsible To: Pastoral Coordinator (Jenny Cosslett)
Time Committment: Approx. 2 hours per week
As part of this role a volunteer would have the following responsibilities:
  • Select a visitor from the appropriate Visiting Team to visit specific parishioners, as requested by the Clergy and/or Pastoral Coordinator
  • Record visit details and if any further action is required
  • Regularly review Visiting Team members to ensure both parties are happy with the arrangements that have been made
  • Convey any concerns to the Pastoral Coordinator regarding changes in health and/or spiritual needs of the Visiting Team member or the person(s) being visited, taking into account confidentiality issues
  • Support the Pastoral Coordinator with recruitment, training and support of new members for St John's Visiting Team.

A volunteer in this role would require some or all of the following attributes:
  • Nonjudgmental attitude toward housebound parishioners and others in need
  • Honest, dependable, organised and able to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Friendly, patient and has good relational skills
  • Has a spirit of love for others, generosity and kindness
  • Can listen effectively and communicate clearly with others
  • Able to coordinate the activities of a team of volunteers and to offer training and support when required

In order for someone to be able to perform this role the following training and support will be given:
  • St John's Visitor Orientation Welcome meeting
  • Ongoing advice and support from the Pastoral Coordinator
  • Occasional meetings with the Pastoral Coordinator and support meetings for all St John's Visiting Team
