Maintenance Team (Team Member-Churchyard Refuse Team)

To ensure that graveyard refuse is segregated for the weekly collection by the Local Authority, bins are placed outside the graveyard ready for collection and replaced in the Church bin store afterwards.

Responsible To: Estate Manager (David Orritt)
Time Committment: 1 to 2 hours three times per year on a rota basis
As part of this role a volunteer would have the following responsibilities:
  • Collect any loose litter in the graveyard, car park or paths surrounding the Church building
  • Check that all non-recyclable refuse is placed in the grey wheelie bins and that the lids of the bin can be closed
  • Check that only green recyclable refuse is placed in the green wheelie bins
  • Check that all glass and plastic bottles are placed in the blue collection box
  • Ensure that the metal and black plastic dustbins are emptied and contain refuse segregated as necessary. Ensure that black plastic bin liners from the church stock are used to reline the metal bins.
  • Ensure that the bin location area is left in a tidy condition
  • Ensure that the appropriate colour of refuse bin is placed outside the boundary wall on Tuesday evening for collection on Wednesday morning and that bins are put back inside the bin store after refuse has been removed.

A volunteer in this role would require some or all of the following attributes:
  • Be fit and healthy
  • Be able to work with minimum supervision and able to use own initiative
  • Have good manual dexterity
  • Have an understanding of basic health and safety precautions necessary when handling graveyard waste
  • Able to liaise with the Estate Manager regarding any concerns

In order for someone to be able to perform this role the following training and support will be given:
  • Initial training and ongoing support arranged by the Estate Manager
