Richard Jones (Vicar) Parish Office: (01704) 897852 About Richard Born in India in 1965, to missionary parents, I returned to the UK at a young age and grew up in North London, where my father was minister of a small Baptist church. Although I was brought up in a Christian home, it was at the age of 15 that I made my own decision to follow Christ. Following a year out spent teaching in India, I studied Law and Politics at Durham University. A career in the business world then followed, including jobs in management consultancy and running two floors of Harrods! I then had jobs with two Christian organisations, Scripture Union and STL (based in Carlisle). It was whilst I was working at STL that I increasingly felt the call to train for ordination, and I was accepted and began my training at Wycliffe Hall in Oxford in 2002. I was ordained in 2004 and then served a 4 year curacy in a large church in Ashtead, Surrey. My wife Jo, our children Rachel and Joshua and I moved to Burscough in August 2008 and I was licensed as vicar of St John’s on 1 September. I am hugely excited and humbled to be called to serve in such a committed and caring church community. We look forward to getting to know you and together proclaiming God’s transforming love and helping to build His kingdom both in the local area and further afield. |
