Children & Youth

Here at St. John’s we have a range of activities during the week for children starting with creche and going right up until they finish primary school and join our youth groups. We run groups for children in church and visit our local primary schools regularly.

So if you're ready to find out more..... here's the low-down starting with mid-week groups and then Sunday.

Mid-week

Tots  & Toddlers

Each session is designed to give parents, carers and children opportunities to relax, have fun, build new friendships and learn about the Christian faith in a creative way.

Toys are set out for free play. We also have some areas identified for more structured play and craft activities. Parents are encouraged to join in during story and singing time. We look forward to seeing you.

Puppets (ages 11+) 

We meet on a Tuesday evening in church from 5:00-6:00pm.

JC’s  (school years 7 & 8)

This is a lively and dynamic group for young people in years 7 & 8.  We meet on a Wednesday evening 7:00-9:00pm in the Church Hall. 

We have a varied programme of events aimed at supporting one another, as we journey from childhood into the adult world.  We enjoy some Christian teaching around issues that we face in our daily lives and lots of fun and games- not forgetting the highlight of the evening , our tuck shop!

FROG (school years 9 & 10)

Frog stands for Fully Reliant on God.

We currently meet in church each Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00pm.   This group is aimed at young people in years 9 & 10. We run a varied programme of events – some social and some more focused upon issues we face in our daily lives.

Youth Band (school years 7 +) 

If you love music and singing, we’d love to meet you.

We are a group of keen young musicians and singers who meet in church on Tuesday evenings from 7:15-8:15pm.  This group is open to anyone in school years 7 and above. 

We sing Christian music together and explore what it means to worship God through music.  From time to time we lead the worship in church and in the various Youth & Children’s groups.

PUSH (school years 11 +)

Push stands for Pray Until Something Happens.

We meet on a Monday evening from 8:00 – 9:30pm. We have an informal social time followed by a session where we explore the relevance of God in our lives and in society at large.

Sessions are varied and include some Bible study, discussion, prayer and social events such as bowling & Quasar. Overnight trips away are also good fun.

Sunday

Groups are available in the 11:00am morning service and for older teenagers in the evening at St. John’s.

We begin every Sunday morning together.  After approximately 20 minutes together in church, school age children are invited to enjoy time with friends in dedicated groups.  This is a creative time of teaching, fun and friendship led by their leaders. The groups are organised by age and are led by teams of volunteer leaders supported by Joanna Marshall and Christine Spencer who co-ordinate the church’s ministry to children and young people.

Once a month (second Sunday), all ages enjoy worshipping together in the same service.  These services are informal and engaging.

Anyone is welcome to join the groups and parents will be asked to fill in a registration form on their child's first visit. Why not visit us this Sunday and see what it's all about?

Sunday morning groups:

Sparklers (pre-school) 

Sparklers Creche is available for children 3 and under during the 11.00 all age service.

Parents are welcome to bring their children out and enjoy time with the leaders as they share stories, sing, colour, play and have refreshments or simply enjoy a friendly hand to rock baby to sleep!

All Stars (school years Reception to Year 6)

At All Stars we split the children into age related groups and aim to follow through the teaching themes of the church in an appropriate & fun way.  This is interspersed with craft or themed mornings where we might play games or take part in a whole range of different activities. Our aim is to build friendship as we learn about God together.

JC’s (school years 7 & 8) & FROG (school years 9 & 10)

At JCs & FROG we love to have fun & talk! 

Our primary aim is to build strong relationships with each other & with God so that we can support one another as we journey through life. Our sessions explore a range of church themes & lifestyle issues.  We see what the Bible teaches us and how we can apply this in our daily lives.
