Community Projects
Between Monday 15th and Friday 19th August there where be 13 of us from St John's camping with thousands of other Christians
in the MerseyFest Tent City based in Croxteth Park, Liverpool.
Each morning we attended a great worship event on Tent City with DJ Lee Jackson warming up followed by a top speakers: Bishop of Liverpool, Jason Gardner, Andy Hawthorne, Nancy Goudie, George Verwer and Malcolm Duncan.
These where joined by many other special guests. Worship was lead by YFriday, Steve and 100 Hours.
Each Afternoon we were transported out to work on one of the 200+ Community projects happening across Merseyside. Projects include: environmental improvements, building new community facilities; crime reduction efforts with local police, setting up drop-in cafes and counseling services; care work with the elderly, litter picks and graffiti removal, youth projects and fun day events, BBQ's, concerts and dance, art and DJ workshops.
There where 2 projects worked on by groups from St John's, both of which where in Formby. A report of exactly what we got up to will be available soon.
Each Evening there where events running throughout the week at local churches - including chill out cafes, sports tournaments, arts workshops, concerts, parties and BBQ's.
Each night in Tent City there where 2 Cafes open, with live bands, chill out space and refreshments, and a free cinema screening each night.
The Weekend Event
Merseyfest threw a massive, FREE WEEKEND EVENT at Liverpool's Croxteth Park. Featuring bands, DJ's, live MC's and breakdancers, Europe's biggest outdoor skate park, bungee jumping, urban arts, a massive firework display, a family interactive zone with bouncing cxastles, games, face painting and lots of fun for all the family. There where well over 25,000 people there each day.
