Worship Team (Leader)

To engage the St Johns congregation in worship by leading the a worship team on a regular basis, under the direction of the Worship Team Coordinator (Peter Short).

Responsible To: Worship Team Coordinator (Peter Short)
Time Committment: 2 hours per service (minimum)
                                                                                                                
As part of this role a volunteer would have the following responsibilities:
  • Liaise with the service leader to obtain draft service plan two weeks or at least 12 days in advance of the service
  • Discuss the theme of the sermon with the preacher to gain insight into the message and application points to incorporate into the song sets - (also around 12 days in advance of the service)
  • Select song set for the service in line with the draft outline provided by the service leader. Prayerfully consider, select, and submit draft song set to service leader in time to distribute song sets to band members at the Thursday practice two weeks in advance of the Sunday in question
  • It is a requirement that the worship team leader is present at the Thursday practice preceding the Sunday service to run through the song set with other band members


A volunteer in this role would require some or all of the following attributes:
  • A worship team leader will have demonstrated the following attributes whilst previously serving as part of one of the existing worship teams
  • Able to lead a group of singers whether individually or as part of a group of instruments
  • A good understanding of the current song sets known by the congregation
  • Strong commitment to service of the Lord, and humbleness in service
  • Dedication and ability to learn new songs and/or variations on existing song arrangements
  • A willingness to sensitively lead the congregation in worship
  • A desire to express songs in fresh creative ways


In order for someone to be able to perform this role the following training and support will be given:
  • The role will require a strong element of training and support to begin with as a new leader grows into the roles of song selection, team management and sensitivity to requirements etc...
  • Experienced musicians and leaders always available to share insight, provide advice, personal experiences and suggestions
  • Training available to learn new skills such as the difference between 'playing in worship' and 'leading in worship'
  • External training courses and events are available for attendance
